Seminar: Listening to Glaciers

Title: "Listening to Glaciers: The 2012 Glacsweb Deployment"
Speaker: Dr Dirk de Jager, WAIS, Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton
Date: Wednesday 24th October 2012
Time: 11.00
Location: Building 32 Seminar Room

Glacsweb is a project within the University of Southampton which develops technology to monitor the behaviour of glaciers. This last August and September, a set of newly designed sub-glacial and geophone probes was deployed in the Skalafellsjokull glacier in Iceland. These new probes will gather higher resolution data and a new set of information on the motion of the glacier.

This talk will discuss the new hardware and technology designed and developed here in the WAIS group, the deployment of the new probes and give a brief overview of the data which has been collected so far along with challenges going forward.

Awaiting biography.
